Education of Health Workers
Limited understanding about cancer and severe HIV/AIDS among health workers in the districts remains a significant barrier to access to prevention of cancer, diagnosis and treatment, and referral for palliative care.
Since 2019 RHHJ has trained over 600 health workers in basic palliative care through a practically-oriented 3 day curriculum, including over 1,400 health workers who received Continuing Medical Education (CME) in 2024 alone. This has increased palliative care referrals in Busoga Region and Buikwe district.
RHHJ also continues to offer training in screening of cervical and breast cancer for government health center staff. As of June 2025, RHHJ has trained more than 100 nurses, midwives and clinical officers, which is followed by routine support supervision and refresher training for screeners.
