Nangobi Sarah

Nangobi Sarah, a 34 year old mother of three, from Buyende received a confirmed diagnosis of cervical cancer with the support of her husband. Referred to Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), the family sold their house and land to pay for tests and radiotherapy. They received UGX 500,000 ($137 USD), which is less than half the cost of radiotherapy alone, not to mention the additional tests, transportation, and living expenses during treatment.
At UCI, Sarah heard about Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja (RHHJ) from another patent. By then, the family had lost their home and faced mounting medical bills with no place to stay. RHHJ provided financial support for Sarah's treatment and built a small house for the family, ensuring they had a roof over their heads.
Sarah is still getting treatment and improving. However, her story is unfortunately common. Poor families often make significant financial sacrifices to access medical treatment, which may still be insufficient to cover the costs. These sacrifices have devastating consequences, including food scarcity, children being pulled out of school, and ultimately, families being forced to discontinue treatment, trapping them in a cycle of poverty from which they cannot escape.
Thank you to our donors for helping us support our poor clients, giving them a chance to LIVE and to continue to have a LIFE afterward.
