Babirye Lydia

Nine months later Lydia can smile again! She admits she had already given up and she is grateful to RHHJ for not giving up on her. Lucy looks healthy now and has started a bead craft to support her family.

Thank you to all our generous donors for giving Lucy hope and a new chance of life.

"If there's still something you can do, then your work isn't finished yet!”
Babirye Lydia, a 30 year old single mother of three, was referred to Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja (RHHJ). She had an extremely swollen left knee, which was diagnosed as osteosarcoma. The team explained that she would need treatment which would entail amputation of the leg. Terrified, Lydia began hiding when we came for home visits and seeking other treatments. But the leg got worse and started bleeding causing her to become anemic and wasting away. Her family began to anticipate her death.

The RHHJ team continued the counseling of Lydia and her family and finally the father understood the serious situation and convinced Lydia to seek treatment.
Funded by RHHJ she received treatment from Uganda Cancer Institution and eventually had an amputation.
