George

george 2.jpg

George, a 65 year old with severe tropical ulcers, is totally dependent on his elderly mother for care after his wife left him due to the disease. Struggling in poverty Ray of Hope Hospice (RHHJ) has provided psychosocial support to him and his mother. We have given him a wheelchair that allows him to finally leave his dark room and lessons the burden of care placed on the mother.

George is a 65 year old man who has a severe tropical ulcer on his right leg. The ulcer left him bedridden a few years ago. Bedridden and unable to provide for his family, his wife left him. He is now in the care of his elderly mother and young niece–whom he is totally dependent on. The attention he requires means that neither the mother or niece have time to work–the family is extremely poor.

George does not leave his dark room. The caretaker's workload is immense and his mother is getting older and weaker. She doesn’t know if she will be strong enough to continue caring for him.

Ray of Hope Hospice Jinja helps George and his family with food support, comfort fund, a mattress and bedding as well as palliative care for his wounds. We also gave George a wheelchair, which was generously donated to us. It has changed George’s life and that of his mother’s greatly. It has given him back some independence and allowed him to leave his dark house and see the world.

The wheelchair has made his mother’s life so much easier! When we gave it to him, George’s mother raised her hands to the sky and thanked God for such a wonderful gift.
