Jackline

Jackline was a 27-year-old single mother diagnosed with cancer of the nose and sinuses. She was a remarkably strong and kind soul, who fought her cancer to the end.

When Jackline developed sudden nose bleeding, she didn’t worry until her nose started to swell and the growth reached her eye. Seeking treatment, she was enrolled by Ray of Hope Hospice Jinja who supported her as she received treatment at Uganda Cancer Institute. However, it became clear that her cancer was too advanced to cure, but she was supported through palliative radiotherapy, of which she never missed an appointment. She fought to live a long, happy life.

Her tumor had disfigured her face, causing her extreme pain, but you never would have guessed it, as she took the time to help those around her. She always greeted visitors with a hug and a smile. She developed a special friendship with Joy, a fellow patient; they took care of each other. When Joy was admitted to Kamuli Hospital, Jackline traveled over 80km to take care of her, no questions asked.

Jackeline died in ….. after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She will be remembered for her joy and kindness. We all have learned a lot from her - how lucky we are to have known her.
